GRANT WARD SCHOLARSHIP REPORT

It has been quite an eventful period since my last report starting with good results for 2019 at Ayr winning the Karrie Webb Junior Masters and I then followed that up at the Greg Norman Junior Masters making the cut finishing top 10 and having all four rounds in the 70’s. At the start of 2020 I participated in the qualifying event for the QLD Isuzu Men’s Open, it was a great experience and although not making the cut it gave me a better understanding of the level of golf required and just how hard it is in the elite level of our sport. I will be going back next year to try again.

As everyone is aware the COVID-19 virus has put a stop to a lot of normal activities including golf. We have been fortunate in QLD not to be as affected as our southern counterparts and it has been a credit to our NQ district clubs to reschedule our Junior events. In a revised season Mackay, Bowen Ayr, Proserpine and Charters Towers have or will hold opens. I recently won the Mackay Open which qualified me for the Greg Norman again and last week I won the Bowen Junior Open for a small club they put on a great event and I was proud to be defending champion.

For next couple of months, I have a busy schedule with Schools representing Capricornia in Cairns, Gary Player in Brisbane and GNJM at the end of the year. I will also try and play some men’s events including Rowes Bay and Ayr.

I continue to work on my swing and trying to practice at least five times a week. I have also begun regular sessions at the gym and sessions with a Personal Trainer which is helping my core and stability

My handicap has come down and I am now off 0.9 and with consistency it should remain low.

I will provide an update at the end of the year and again wish to thank the NQ Committee for their support.
