About 120 amateur and professional golfers took to the field for the rain delayed third round of the New Pioneer Motors City of Mackay Open. After more overnight rain, players were able to start their third round today (Sunday) with a shotgun start at 9:00 am, being the final round of the rain-shortened tournament.

New Zealand Professional Douglas Holloway followed the first round’s 6 under par with a 5 under yesterday and another 5 under today, to keep local Professional Anthony Johnson at bay.  Johnson shot a 7-under today to almost regain the lead, but despite being tied with Holloway at one stage, a bogie on 18 dropped him out of the lead and he finished 2 shots shy of the lead.

Kristopher Mueck repeated yesterday’s 5-under, to trail Johnson by 2 shots at the end of the day, with Mitchell A Brown and Troy Cox a further shot behind.

In playing conditions that couldn’t be considered easy, the fact that over two-thirds of the field finished at par or better for the three rounds, demonstrates the strength of the Professional field that nominated for this event.  You can check out the scores for the Pro field by Clicking Here…

Michael Dunn, representing Black Springs and playing off +1 shot a 68 today to go with his 74 and 69, to keep all contenders at bay with a final score of 211, 4 shots clear of Elliot Beel on 215 and Connor Edmonds on 216. Both Sheree Hasson and Clinton Smith finished on 219.

Chris Baxter overcame a 3 shot deficit to Shalendra Singh to snatch the lead in the nett event, although Jarryn Hill finished runner-up on the same score as Singh – a 211. Baxter had an equal best 69 nett today. Read all the scores by Clicking Here…

A full field completed Round 1 on Thursday, but the expected rain rolled in and continued throughout the night, forcing Round 2 to be re-scheduled till later in the day with a reduced field.  With more delays, it took until about 4 pm on Saturday to complete Round 2, making any hope for completing 72 holes just wishful thinking. Fortunately, Sunday stayed relatively clear with just a few showers, and the final 18 holes were completed by mid afternoon, after a delayed shotgun start at 9 am with a reduced field.
