GRANT WARD SCHOLARSHIP REPORT- Kyle Dowde

GRANT WARD SCHOLARSHIP REPORT

It has been quite an eventful period since my last report starting with good results for 2019 at Ayr winning the Karrie Webb Junior Masters and I then followed that up at the Greg Norman Junior Masters making the cut finishing top 10 and having all four rounds in the 70’s. At the start of 2020 I participated in the qualifying event for the QLD Isuzu Men’s Open, it was a great experience and although not making the cut it gave me a better understanding of the level of golf required and just how hard it is in the elite level of our sport. I will be going back next year to try again.

As everyone is aware the COVID-19 virus has put a stop to a lot of normal activities including golf. We have been fortunate in QLD not to be as affected as our southern counterparts and it has been a credit to our NQ district clubs to reschedule our Junior events. In a revised season Mackay, Bowen Ayr, Proserpine and Charters Towers have or will hold opens. I recently won the Mackay Open which qualified me for the Greg Norman again and last week I won the Bowen Junior Open for a small club they put on a great event and I was proud to be defending champion.

For next couple of months, I have a busy schedule with Schools representing Capricornia in Cairns, Gary Player in Brisbane and GNJM at the end of the year. I will also try and play some men’s events including Rowes Bay and Ayr.

I continue to work on my swing and trying to practice at least five times a week. I have also begun regular sessions at the gym and sessions with a Personal Trainer which is helping my core and stability

My handicap has come down and I am now off 0.9 and with consistency it should remain low.

I will provide an update at the end of the year and again wish to thank the NQ Committee for their support.

Hills Academy September Camp- CLOSED

Golf North Queensland is calling for Juniors wishing to attend Hills Academy 5 day coaching camp, at no cost to be held at Hills Golf Academy from Saturday 28th September to Wednesday 2nd October. Please note; travel cost are not covered

GNQ will make a selection from nominations received by 30 JUNE and notify those selected by the second week of August.

Hills International Golf Academy will be conducting its annual holiday golf camp during the second week of the September school holidays. It is with pleasure that we invite two representatives (1 boy & 1 girl) from your District, at no cost, to attend our 5 day coaching camp which is to be held at Hills Golf Academy from Saturday 28th September to Wednesday 2nd October.  Please note; travel cost are not covered

Because we are blessed with cutting edge technology (such as Trackman and Puttlab) and high quality coaches that is not always available in certain Districts, the Academy felt it was our way to help promote the game of golf within this great State of ours.

The nominated players will reside at the Hills dormitory during the camp and will be provided all meals. During the camp, attendees will go through a series of skills testing and data gathering as well as some information on technique, rules, and game plan strategies which will be conducted by the Hills coaching staff members who are all well respected PGA professionals. A schedule of the camp is attached.

If the players brings along a USB device, we can download all data gathered (Trackman, Puttlab and skills test results) for them to take back to their coach. During the last two days of the camp, the players will compete in the Hills Junior Classic which is a Greg Norman Masters open qualifier for the SEQDGA District.
