The Rowes Bay Golf Club’s Women’s Open has a new champion.

Koralie Keys Open ChampionThis prestigious women’s golf event, which has been dominated over the past 8 years by Eileen Thompson (Bell) from Townsville, has a new champion in Rowes Bay’s 17 year old Koralie Key, the club’s 37th Women’s Open Champion – a fantastic feat for a junior player.

Bowen’s Corinne Dibnah won the first Women’s Open in 1978, and there are many well-known North Queensland names on the Open Cup, none more famous than Ayr’s Karrie Webb whose name was engraved in 1990.

This year’s Women’s Open was played on Saturday 13th June with a strong field of 99 players and perhaps one of the best opens for many years.

Rowes Bay’s course is traditionally known as “tough as” and no more so than this year, but with a change of format with the C Graders playing a Single Stableford event, and with the help of several volunteers giving up their time for “spotting duties” and “crow sighting” the field moved well.

Rowes Bay featured well with Nicola Williams taking out the A Grade Gross with 80 two shots behind Koralie.  Fiona Bell from Townsville was runner up.  Nett winner, Margaret Schultink, runner up Shae Carnes.

Jo Purdon secured B Grade with a 95 gross, with Lyn Townson one shot behind, nett winner Suzanne Scott, runner up Kerrie Doolan (Willows).

C  Grade played a Single Stableford with Pam Malone the winner with 36 points, followed by Mandy Eales, Di Maxwell and Joan Lloyd.

Special thanks to our sponsors Pickerings and Toro.
