UPDATE
Grant Ward Scholarship (2016)
Dominique Paice
I am writing to you to let you know how my golf has been going since I last spoke to you. With the help of my coach Joseph, I have been working on ways to improve my golf swing. The changes we have been making are big and very important if I want to improve my game. Therefor, it has taken me a while to adjust to these changes, resulting in some not so good golf games. However, once I get used to these changes, I know that I will be playing my very best. We have been aiming to get a lesson once a week, however this hasn’t always been possible due to holidays and unavailability etc. I have been aiming to practice at least four times a week and play once a week. Due to work commitments, I am only available to play in the Saturday competition. Since last writing to you my handicap has continued to drop despite not playing my best due to adjusting to the changes in my golf swing. I now play off 5.7. As well as the changes to my swing, I am now playing with new golf clubs. I now play with the Callaway Apex CF 16 irons. After playing with them for a few weeks I am finally starting to get used to the feel of them as well as the distance changes compared to my old clubs. I am very happy with my choice of clubs. I am still working towards my next personal goal which is a handicap of below 5 and I hope to have this achieved before I write to you next.
Since last writing to you I have competed in a few competitions. I came 3rd in the Pioneer Valley open and 2nd in Sarina ladies open. My playing partner Shae and I came 1st in the Mackay foursomes. This was my first time playing in the foursomes, it was a fun day and it was even better that we had a win. I was also happy to be told that I was the Gertrude McLeod winner for Mackay. However, I was unable to attend due to a family event. On the weekend, I played penates for the first time. I had the second lowest handicap so I was the second player, unfortunately I did not play well all weekend which was a little disappointing. Even though I didn’t play well, I still had fun and it was a good experience. I am already looking forward to playing penates next year.
At this stage, I do not have any competitions coming up that I know of. I am still working on improving my handicap and want to have a handicap of below 5 before the end of the year. If i do achieve this goal, it would mean that this year alone, I would have dropped about 9 shots off my handicap. I will continue to use the money from this scholarship towards lessons to improve my game so this goal will be more than achievable.
That is all for now. Thank you again for supporting me in my goals.
Kind regards,
Dom
